Our Favorite Library is Reopening

Dolley Madison Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Saturday, July 9

After months of renovation, the Dolley Madison Library, a branch of the Fairfax County Public Library located adjacent to MCC, is reopening Saturday.

The completely renovated building, which incorporates a variety of environmentally-friendly design features, has been modernized and expanded an additional 8,400 square feet. It includes additional study and conference room space and 24 public access computers.

The festivities will include performances by the Northern Virginia Hammer Dulcimer group, magical storyteller Steve Kissell and Dolley Madison interpreter Margie Schoenberg.

The USA Canteen in Concert

Hop into your DeLorean and take a ride back in time. Take a tour of music from the last century at our Summer Sunday Concerts in the Park. These free concerts take place in McLean Central Park Sundays in July at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, July 10, we welcome The USA Canteen. Let the good times roll with a jumpin' big band, dazzling vocalists, swing dancers and more. The lovely "Andrews Sisters" vocal trio bring the magic of the 1940's!

Joseph and the Amazing® Technicolor Dreamcoat

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the enduringly popular musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is coming to the Alden Theatre this July.

The McLean Community Players will perform this family-friendly musical based on the Biblical tale of the "coat of many colors." With its universal themes and engaging music, it has been a favorite since its Broadway opening in 1982.

The Friends of the McLean Community Center organization has named Joann Berkson the recipient of its 2011 "Friend in Deed" award.

Berkson has served as the president of the Friends of MCC organization for four years. In that time, she has been instrumental in increasing the group's involvement in Center initiatives.

Berkson is the eighteenth person to receive this recognition "with gratitude for outstanding leadership and support of the McLean Community Center."

She received a plaque at the Friends meeting on June 6. In addition, a plaque with her name will be added to the "Friend in Deed" wall in the Center's main lobby.

Fun with OFTC

Theme Park Wednesdays

The Old Firehouse Teen Center (OFTC) has the perfect solution! Theme Park Wednesday trips run every Wednesday through mid-August. Destinations include Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion and Massanutten Indoor Waterpark.

Unique Camps for Ages 11- 18

Fish and Explore Camp
This camp is structured around elements that naturally excite children such as animals, water and a little dirt! Students will walk away from a week of Fish & Explore with core knowledge of fish species, rods, reels, line, lures and terminal tackle, watercraft, casting, knot tying and outdoor safety.

11-17 years (must be 11 years old by the start of this program)
5 lessons @ 8 hrs, $495/$450 McLean district residents.

Culinary Techniques for Teens
