Virginia Rep announces that beginning July 14, Courtney Jamison will replace Zuri Washington in the role of Deena in the current production of Dreamgirls. Jamison opened the show in the ensemble and as the understudy for Washington.

She is a native of Richmond and an MFA student at the Yale School of Drama, where she recently debuted the new play, Some Bodies Travel. Jamison spent her younger years at SPARC as a performer, stage manager, assistant director and intern. She received her undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre from James Madison University where she received a KCACTF Irene Ryan Nomination for her role as L'il Bit in How I Learned To Drive and Graduating Musical Theatre Student of the Year in 2015. Other recent credits include The Color Purple at Virginia Rep, The Moors at Yale Repertory, All Shook Up, and Spring Awakening at James Madison University. Jamison was Miss Arlington in 2015 and placed First runner Up to Miss Virginia last year.

Dreamgirls runs through August 7 at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre. With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics and book by Tom Eyen, this megawatt Broadway crowd-pleaser electrifies the stage with Motown dreams and powerhouse voices.

Loosely based on Diana Ross and The Supremes, the story follows the turbo-charged rise to fame of the Dreams.
