Barter Youth Academy is a performance-based educational program that allows students of all ages the chance to learn and develop their performance and storytelling skills. Using the acting and rehearsing techniques of the Barter Resident Acting Company, students work through the theatre experience from the audition to the final performance onstage in front of a live audience. BYA provides a safe, positive environment to enhance the abilities for the beginning performer, as well as shaping the talents of the advanced youth actors.

Barter Youth Academy is a great opportunity for your people to explore their creative side, and this year we will explore stories like Aesop's Fables, Tales from Greek Mythology, The Odyssey, and From Atlanta to Zeus.

Barter Youth Academy offers classes for ages 5-18 in Abingdon VA, Bristol VA/TN, Johnson City TN, and Kingsport TN. Registration for Barter Youth Academy's spring semester is open NOW! For more information about our classes as well as how to register you can visit our website: www.bartertheatre.com/education/bya or call the BYA office at 276-619-3344.

About Barter Theatre Barter Theatre, the nation's longest running professional theatre, is located in Abingdon, Virginia. The theatre opened in 1933 during the Great Depression. Founder Robert Porterfield offered patrons admission to the theatre by bartering food and livestock. Barter Theatre was designated as the state theatre of Virginia in 1946. It exists today as one of the last year-round professional resident repertory theaters remaining in the United States. Barter Theatre is funded in part by The Virginia Commission for the Arts and The National Endowment for the Arts.
