Barter Theatre Dives Into Comedy with MADAME BUTTERMILK

One of the most beloved musicals at Barter Theatre is coming to Gilliam Stage April 5 - May 11, 2019. "Madame Buttermilk" may be the funniest and wittiest show ever done by Barter Theatre.

In this spunky, musical comedy, country music meets opera in one of the most Popular Productions to ever come though Barter's Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights. You can enjoy this production one more time, with a new cast of Barter favorites, some new music, and all of the fun you loved before.

Hannah Ingram plays a struggling opera singer with a dream to sing the lead in "Carmen," and her agent accidentally books her a gig at the West Virginia State Fair with the Car Men Band, led by Rick McVey! Chaos erupts and comedy ensues, and there is still time for a love story.

Director Richard Rose says, "Rarely have I experienced audiences of all ages and all backgrounds come together to laugh so hard, to enjoy the journey of this story and these characters so completely, and to leave the theatre so full of joy." We hope that you join us April 5 - May 11 for this brilliant and hilarious musical adventure.

Tickets start at $20. To book your seats, call 276-628-3991 or visit www.BarterTheatre.com

About Barter Theatre

Barter Theatre, the nation's longest running professional theatre, is located in Abingdon, Virginia. The theatre opened in 1933 during the Great Depression. Founder Robert Porterfield offered patrons admission to the theatre by bartering food and livestock. Barter Theatre was designated as the state theatre of Virginia in 1946. It exists today as one of the last year-round professional resident repertory theaters remaining in the United States. Barter Theatre is funded in part by The Virginia Commission for the Arts and The National Endowment for the Arts.
