STEEL MAGNOLIAS
AUDITION INFORMATION

We will be casting for the following roles:
TRUVY JONES (late 40's-early 50's) – upbeat owner of Truvy’s Beauty Shop whose motto is “There’s no such thing as natural beauty.”
ANNELLEE DUPUY- DESOTO (18-22) – a novice beauty shop assistant, naïve and a bit “peculiar”.
CLAIREE BELCHER (50-60) – widow of the town’s former mayor, elegant, sophisticated.
SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE (19-20) – prettiest girl in town, strong willed, passionate.
M’LYNN EATENTON (late 40’s-early 50’s) – Shelby’s mother, strong, stubborn and a socially prominent career woman who always knows what’s best.
OUISER “Weezer” BOUDREAUX (55-70) – wealthy curmudgeon, tough eccentric
Please prepare two contrasting monologues. You will also read from the script. Keep in mind that the women in this play are witty, intelligent, and, above all, real. They are in no way meant to be portrayed as cartoons or caricatures. Also, this play requires Southern dialects, specifically Louisiana. We would like to hear this at auditions.

Performances: November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23, 2014
Show Week: November 9-13, 2014
Rehearsals: Sunday (afternoons) & Friday (evenings)
Show Description: Set in a small-town beauty shop in Louisiana on the wedding day of the much loved Shelby, a young and pretty diabetic, the play creates a sense of community between six women who meet regularly to share their joys and sorrows as well as to gossip good-naturedly about men, marriage and the latest hair styles. We see a tenderness emanating from the spirit of these indomitable women.
