ROCKY THE MUSICAL - CM Performing Arts Center

The CM PERFORMING ARTS CENTER is holding Main Stage auditions for ROCKY THE MUSICAL on Monday, June 15 at 7:30PM at the CM Performing Arts Center, and on Wednesday, June 17th at 7:30PM at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Sayville, NY (
Directions Here).

Please note, the CM Performing Arts Center is a non-profit community theatre. All of our performers are volunteers, however we understand the sacrifices and commitment actors make to our community. All performers will receive a $20 travel stipend per performance at the culmination of the production.

Please bring possible rehearsal and/or performance conflicts to the auditions. The CM Performing Arts Center is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in the casting and encourages actors of diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups to audition. Video submissions will be accepted if you are unable to make either audition date.

Please prepare a 16 – 32 bar cut of a musical theatre song either from the show or in a similar style. An accompanist will be provided.

PLOT:

From the Academy Award® winner for Best Picture, Rocky has entered the ring again in this musical adaptation. Rocky is a hard-hitting yet tender musical with music and lyrics by Tony® winners and Academy Award® nominees Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and a book by multiple Tony winner Thomas Meehan, adapted from the acclaimed Oscar®-nominated screenplay by Sylvester Stallone.

Rocky Balboa is a small-time Philadelphia boxer who is chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed, when the undefeated fighter’s scheduled opponent is injured. As he diligently trains for the fight, Rocky begins a relationship with Adrian, a wallflower who is tired of being pushed around by her brother. As their love grows, Rocky and Adrian each find their inner strength and bring out the best in each other.

With equal parts grit and heart, Rocky is about the triumph of spirit, strength, and love.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

ROCKY: Male presenting, Self dubbed the “Italian Stallion,” Rocky starts out as an underdog small time boxer who will later get a shot at the world heavyweight championship. By day, Rocky works as a debt collector for a loan shark. A strong athlete. Working class. Has depth, brooding and darkness but also a good sense of humor. Not be too slick or polished. Has a strong musical theatre, pop/rock voice.

ADRIAN: Female presenting, Rocky’s love interest and Paulie’s younger sister. Adrian is a clerk in a local pet store that Rocky visits and unsuccessfully tries to woo. Adrian is painfully shy. She is damaged, vulnerable and wounded. Has a great voice with a strong belt.

MICKEY: Male presenting.Rocky’s trainer. Mickey is tough, angry and vulnerable. Nimble. Mickey is an old man who doesn’t believe he is old. He loves the world of boxing. Mickey is a surrogate father to Rocky. Sings.

PAULIE: Male Presenting. Adrian’s brother and friend of Rocky’s. Paulie works at a meat packing plant but begs Rocky for an in as a debt collector. Paulie is an alcoholic which can launch him into rages. He is angry, defeated and cynical. Has a sense of danger but also has great comedic ability. Is musical and has a sense of rhythm.

GLORIA: Female presenting. Paulie’s love interest. Has been married and divorced. Owns the local pet store. Is very comfortable in her own skin. A strong singer

APOLLO: Black Male presenting. Championship boxer. A favorite to win the World heavyweight championship. Extremely confident. Has sex appeal. Is a strong athlete and an excellent singer.

ENSEMBLE: All types welcome. The ensemble plays all other featured parts and brings to life the city of Philly and the world of Rocky!
