RADIO VAIL - Vail-Leavitt Music Hall Non Equity Auditions

We are seeking actors with versatile voices for a unique old time radio theatre production to be presented as part of an 8-day variety arts festival at the historic Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in Riverhead, NY.

The play will be presented as authentically as possible, i.e. with live music and sound effects, commercials and/or announcements relevant to the period from th 1920s to 1950s, representing the Golden Age of Radio. The format will also build in opportunities for audience participation, e.g. via crowd audibles, one-liners, singing or paraverbal effects etc.

Performance dates will be during the Oct 12-15 and Oct 19-22 (Thurs-Sun) period (weekday evenings and weekend afternoons/evenings). The acting ensemble will require a minimum of 3-5 adult actors who can play multiple characters, preferably with strong and versatile voices, and have an interest in vintage radio theatre. The rehearsal commitment will most likely be 3-4 rehearsals including a dress rehearsal. Performers will be expected to become thoroughly familiar with the script, their character etc in order to ensure a polished performance, but will still have scripts obviously, so there is no need to memorize lines.

We are holding auditions on Sunday August 13, 2-5 pm and Monday August 14, 6-8 pm at the Vail Music Hall, 18 Peconic Ave in downtown Riverhead. No advance appointments; sign in starting at 1:30 on Sunday and 5:45 on Monday. We are asking that performers prepare a 2 minute monologue and be prepared to cold read from the script. Scripts will be available as soon as casting is complete. Although we are not in a position to pay performers for their participation, we will be recording the production and we have negotiated a radio performance as well. Depending upon audience/community interest, we anticipate that the radio project could also evolve into a regular resident ensemble at the Vail.
