MACKENZIE MARTINEZ / LEAD – 34, Latinx, fierce, semi-androgynous bisexual cisgender female (she/her). Confident in who she is and in her strong relationship with her spouse. A bit of a rebel, she is the first to stick a middle finger to traditional gender roles. With the dear of being ostracized as not being "queer enough", she feels a bit pressured to hide her bisexuality from her social circle. A new face in her life puts a strain on the facade she has created and affects the relationship she has with her spouse. The actress must have great stage presence and singing ability (alto).

GIZELLE DAVENPORT / LEAD – 27, Any ethnicity opposite Mackenzie, genderqueer femme lesbian (they/them). A bold soul wins the affection of their peers with their melancholy and spiritual awareness. Their relative quietness is not a sign of being a wilting flower or a meek teenager; yet rather, they have lived a life fighting to be seen on their own terms without the labels that society tries to put on them. Despite their resolution to live outside the labels placed upon them, they have been known to cling tightly to the labels they have created for others. Their relationship is put to the test when a familiar face comes back into their life. The performer must have great stage presence and singing ability (soprano). They must also have the ability to acknowledge they exhibit qualities they would ordinarily criticize others for.

JESSICA KING (TRANS WOMAN OF COLOR) / LEAD – 20, Mixed WOC (pref. Black/Latinx), queer trans woman (she/her). A wildly-beautiful, quick-tongued princess who might lose a disagreement because of her witty charm and intelligence. Her strong exterior is a wall she built to protect herself. Deep down, she is a wounded young woman who yearns to be seen in a hypocritical world that disregards her for being different (and yet authentic to who she is). Jessica is the kind of woman who has the potential to achieve success early in life, had she been born in a world that did not discriminate against her for gender and race. She is highly intelligent and, even when claiming otherwise, is not ignorant of this fact. The actress must be trans-identified and a person of color. They must also have great stage presence and singing ability (alto - tenor 2).

RIVER / SUPPORTING – 22, Any ethnicity, a super queer, gay gender-nonconforming man (he/him or Beyoncé pronouns). A diva by nature. His outgoing personality has garnered him the admiration of his friends/chosen family. He expresses himself by mixing "queer" aesthetics of beautifully-styled facial hair with short-shorts and a crop top. The actor must have great stage presence and a wide, playful vocal range (alto - baritone). **Must also be comfortable bleaching his hair.

FAREED / SUPPORTING – 29, Middle Eastern/Latinx, bi+ intersex male (he/him). A
larger-than-life person, he expresses his wit through his drag persona, TIT-anium. He’s a dependable friend to Mackenzie and a supportive, parental guidance to
Jessica. He finds himself attracted River’s similarly unabashed persona. The actor
must have great, never-dying stage presence/singing ability; a wide vocal range
(tenor 1 - bass); and they must also be comfortable dressing in drag.

PEYTON / SUPPORTING – Middle to Late 30's, Any ethnicity opposite Jessica, straight cisgender male (he/him). A financially well-off hopeless romantic, Peyton has his heart in the right place. He wants to become an advocate for LGBTQ rights and equality but is relatively unfamiliar with the community and its struggles. The actor must have great stage presence and singing ability (tenor); and he must also be calm, poised, and very confident in his ability to flirt, while also being secure.

JAYDEN (TRANS MAN) / SUPPORTING - 27, Any ethnicity, an asexual but straight-identified trans man (he/him). A U.S. Military pilot who is easy on the eyes with a dominant air to him. Because he has had to fight to be respected for the man he is, he lives stealth within society (meaning he is not open about his gender experience in unnecessary circumstances). Though he is not as forthcoming as many of the other characters, he is a gentleman who can handle his own composure. The actor must have great stage presence and singing ability (tenor); and must also be soft-spoken, yet confident.

Story line: Award-winning playwright and queer activist, Miss Hazel Jade returns to the stage with QUEER, a new LGBTQ musical that discovers the complexities of gender and sexuality. This theatrical sensation features an ensemble who takes the stage to perform in truth.

Coming out is just the beautiful beginning. Set in the Manhattan city limits of New York, QUEER unfolds themes including: a bisexual woman finding a new voice in her marriage to a non-binary femme; a queer identified transgender woman of color desiring to be loved for all the woman she is; a gay man learning to live comfortably in his own instead of by the toxic stereotypes enforced on him by society; and a trans man readjusting to life after being dismissed from the U.S. Military due to transphobia within.

Choreographed by theatrical dream team Billy Rugh and Michelle Benton and directed by Rugh (GMCLA's He Had It Coming); a book by acclaimed queer activists and artists, Hazel Jade (Resist March) and Kasey Bryant (Louder Love); and original score by Jerome Kurtenbach (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) that masterfully mixes electronic music and a live orchestra. We invite you to experience the queer community like never before! #QueerMusical
