The Un-Common Theatre Company's Young Performers Production is excited to offer auditions for students in grades 1 through 6 for HONK! JR. on Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. Directed by Westwood High School Senior Erin Fitzgerald, Choreographed by North Smithfield High School Senior Jamie Schmidt and Music Directed by Professional Vocal Instructor Linda Barbieri, this show will feature a cast of 1st through 6th graders and will be performed at the Qualters Middle School in Mansfield, MA, March 9-11, 2018.
Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, HONK! JR. tells the story of Ugly who looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be. HONK! JR. is sure to delight all ages with its heartwarming and witty story filled with unique charm and memorable scores.
Auditions will be held at the Mansfield YMCA, 40 Balcom Street, Mansfield, MA for students in grades 1 through 6 on Sunday, December 17th, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Callbacks will be held from 3 to 5 PM. To make an appointment, please email

For those who are new to the audition process or would like to improve their auditioning skills, Un-Common is also offering an “Introduction to Auditioning Workshop” on Thursday, December 7th from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the MMAS Arts Center, 888 South Main Street Mansfield, MA (across from the Xfinity Center). The workshop will be presented by Meg Quin Dussault, Director of Un-Common’s current fall production of Mary Poppins, and Linda Barbieri, Music Director for our current fall production of Mary Poppins and for our upcoming production of HONK! JR., with HONK! JR.’s Director Erin Fitzgerald and Choreographer Jamie Schmidt presenting an overview of the upcoming Young Performers Production. A breakout session for parents will also be offered to introduce and review the process of the production from auditions to opening night.
