Pit and Balcony Theatre is holding auditions for Greater Tuna, written by Jaston Williams and Joe Sears, and directed by Brandon S. Bierlein. Two actors take on the roles of 22 characters set in highly conservative Tuna, Texas. This show requires two serious, skilled actors, young or old, looking to perfect their presence onstage while portraying numerous characters.
Greater Tuna is a satirical comedy about Texas’ third smallest town, where the Lion’s Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie sit at the microphones of Radio OKKK broadcasting at 275 watts and introducing us to the characters that make up the town from the weatherman to the football coach. This eclectic band of citizens are portrayed by only two performers, making this satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they parade across the stage in all their outrageous glory, commenting on life, politics and what makes them tick.
Saginaw’s Pit & Balcony is presenting its 82nd season, and this show in particular is a great show for young theatre professionals and actors in-training. It is also an opportunity to learn more about and get involved in a long-standing local organization.
