Plot Summary:
Joe Boyd is a typical middle-aged man who is addicted to baseball. Every baseball season is painful for him because his team, the Washington Senators, always loses to the Yankees. Joe ends up making a pact with the Devil that allows Joe Boyd to turn into the slugger, Joe Hardy. Hardy becomes the savior of the Washington Senators and a star in the Major Leagues. The problem is that Joe has also agreed to let the Devil have his soul. Luckily, the deal included an escape clause that allows him to return back to his normal life. After great success as a baseball player and various attempts by the Devil to convince Joe to remain young, Joe decides to return to his wife.

Character Breakdown:
Applegate (30 - 60): Baritone. Devil. He is consumed with winning the soul of Joe Boyd, and makes the deal with Joe that the play hinges on: Joe being transformed to a great baseball player for the Washington Senators, in exchange for his soul at the end of the season.

Joe Boyd (30 - 45): (later called Joe Hardy): Baritone. A middle-aged baseball fanatic, Joe would do anything to help his beloved Washington Senators take the pennant, including selling his soul.

Meg Boyd (30 - 45): Mezzo. Joe's wife, Meg is devoted and understanding, loving and most of all hopeful.

Joe Hardy (18 - 28): Baritone. Respectful, athletic, young, clean-cut, all-American type. Joe Hardy is who Joe Boyd becomes when he makes his deal with Applegate.

Lola (25 - 35): Alto: Works for Applegate, Lola is assigned to seduce Joe and take his mind off his wife, thus fulfilling his contract and losing his soul to the devil. However, deep inside, Lola has a soft heart, especially for Joe.

Gloria (25 - 35): Mezzo Soprano Feisty young reporter

Van Buren (35 - 60):Baritone The hard-working manager of the Washington Senators with great heart but no luck..

Rocky, Smokey, Vernon (18 – 28) Baseball players for the Washington Senators

Doris (30 - 45): Meg’s best friend.

Mr. Welch (40 - 65): Owner of The Washington Senators

Ensemble Casting Breakdown: Various characters in the show. Extremely strong dancers who can sing. Vocal ranges are Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass
