PERFORMANCE DATES:
Friday/Saturday evenings, Saturday/Sunday matinees, March 5–7 and March 12–14, 2027.
Please note that this is a community theatre production and all roles are volunteer/non-paid.
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Set against the social and political upheaval of 19th-century France, Les Misérables follows Jean Valjean, a former prisoner who spends decades attempting to build a new life after breaking parole, while the relentless Inspector Javert pursues him in the name of the law. Their intertwined story unfolds alongside Fantine, a desperate mother fighting to provide for her daughter; Cosette, the child Valjean raises as his own; Marius and Éponine, whose lives become entangled in love and sacrifice; the unscrupulous Thénardiers; and a passionate group of young revolutionaries preparing to take their stand on the barricades.
Sweeping, intimate, tragic, funny, and ultimately hopeful, Les Misérables explores justice and mercy, poverty and privilege, love and sacrifice, and the possibility of redemption.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare 16–32 bars of a song in the style of the show. Please do not sing a song from Les Misérables. Please sing in your natural speaking/singing voice—no accents or dialects are needed for auditions.
An accompanist will not be provided. A piano will be available for auditioners who wish to bring sheet music and their own
accompanist. Otherwise, please bring a recorded accompaniment track cued to the correct starting point for your 16–32 bars.
Please do not plan to sing a cappella.
If available, please bring:
• A current headshot or photograph
• A theatrical résumé
Don't have a professional headshot or résumé? Please audition anyway! They are helpful but not required.
All auditioners will be asked to complete an audition form, including contact information, previous experience, roles of interest, and scheduling conflicts.
Because Les Misérables is almost entirely sung, we are looking for performers who can tell a story through music. Acting choices, emotional connection, character, and storytelling are just as important to us as vocal ability.
CALLBACKS:
Callbacks will be held Monday evening, November 16th. Performers needed for callbacks will be notified by email following the completion of Sunday auditions. Callback materials and any additional instructions will be provided to those invited. Not everyone cast will necessarily be called back.

ENSEMBLE & FEATURED ROLES:
Les Misérables offers an unusually rich ensemble with many opportunities for featured performances and character work, including factory workers, the Factory Foreman, sailors, prostitutes, inn patrons, beggars, townspeople, students, revolutionaries, soldiers, wedding guests, and others. Several ensemble performers will portray multiple characters throughout the production, making versatility, storytelling, movement, and strong ensemble singing especially valuable.
REHEARSALS & AVAILABILITY:
Following casting, the company will gather for an initial sing-through in late November, followed by a table-work rehearsal in early December. We will then break for the holidays. Regular rehearsals will begin in early January and will generally be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the theatre. There may also be occasional Saturday rehearsals added for specific scenes, musical numbers, or groups as needed, based on cast availability.
Not every performer will be called to every rehearsal. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided, and calls will be based on the material being worked.
Because Les Misérables is a large, musically demanding ensemble production, consistent attendance at scheduled calls is essential. Auditioners should provide all known conflicts through the final performance on March 14 on their audition form.
TECH WEEK:
Tech week will run for the full week leading up to opening night on Friday, March 5. Cast members should plan to be available each evening during tech week through opening night. Because of the technical and musical demands of the production, tech-week attendance will be required.
Additional details regarding rehearsal times and the complete production calendar will be provided after casting.
COSTUMES:
Those cast should expect to provide all or a portion of their own costume, working with the production team's costume guidelines. The Front Porch Players maintains a costume wardrobe, and appropriate pieces may be available depending upon character, size, and availability. Theatre-owned costume pieces may be used for a cleaning fee. Specific costume requirements will be communicated after casting.
WE WANT TO SEE YOU! Whether you've performed Les Misérables before, have loved the show for years, or are encountering it for the first time, we encourage you to audition. We are looking for a company of performers who are excited to sing together, tell this extraordinary story together, and build the world of Les Misérables as an ensemble.
Come sing for us!
