Albert Einstein was not only the greatest physicist of the 20th century – he was also a keen musician. He carried his violin, “Lina”, with him everywhere he went; he would refresh his mind with constant musical breaks during his work, and particularly adored chamber music, taking part in the regular Princeton musical evenings and playing with many of the most famous musicians of his day. UK violinist Jack Liebeck, “Young British Performer of the Year” and founder of The Fibonacci Sequence, has a strong interest in science himself and has carried the Einstein’s Universe programmes with Professor Brian Foster worldwide. In the wake of the recent discoveries in particle physics, he teams up with chamber music friends in New Zealand – pianist Stephen De Pledge and Andrew and Julia Joyce, principals of the NZSO – for a special double programme of illustrated talks and the music that Einstein played and loved.
