The Juneteenth Story at Acadiana Center for the Arts

The Juneteenth Story is an original play by Black Theatre Experience and the SWLA Juneteenth Committee, told across two timelines, 1865 and today. As the Williams family prepares to mark Juneteenth, elders hand down the story of how freedom came, and the play connects the emancipation era to the questions of justice and responsibility a Black family still carries now. Written by Lafayette playwright Twana Benoit and directed by Josiah Price, it's a faith story as much as a history one, full of music, movement, and the kind of laughter that has always lived alongside Black survival.
