The Le Petit Theatre to Celebrate 100 Years with Ted Louis Levy in JELLY'S LAST JAM

By:

For the first time in New Orleans, Le Petit produces the Tony award-winning musical that tells the true story of Ferdinand Joseph LeMothe, a.k.a. Jelly Roll Morton. Born a Creole American in the Faubourg Marigny, Jelly Roll Morton took the music he found in the cribs of Storyville out into the wide world. He became a star in Harlem, Chicago, and Los Angeles, going so far as to proclaim himself as the "creator of jazz." Featuring explosive dance and an original score inspired by the best musical traditions of New Orleans, Jelly's Last Jam is the musical triumph that won't give you the blues.

Ted is delightfully honored, to swing into the Le Petit Theatre with Director Jackie Alexander, as Jelly Roll Morton in their new production of Jelly's Last Jam, from Jan 27 - Feb 12, 2017.

Ted's collaboration with Gregory Hines for the Broadway production of George C. Wolfe's Jelly's Last Jam and incorporating Tap Dance as an intrigal part of the story line, as with the theatrical exploit of Agnes DeMills journey with Oklahoma, was a life altering experience. Further exploring the musical metaphor with the art form of Tap Dance, as the rhythmic compliment to Jelly's music, excited and solidified Ted's continuing theatrical journey between story & tap dance.

Marking his new beginning with his directorial debut, with the New York Shakespeare Public Theater, at the Delacorte Theater with Dancing Under The Stars; onward as the assistant to the choreographer, dance supervisor and Tap dance Trainer with Bring In Da' Noise - Bring In Da' funk, followed by Susan Stroman & Harry Conick Jr.'s, Thou Shalt Not. Ted is further developing works that tell stories both contemporary and historic. Highlighting legacys that deserve to be remembered such the legendary Gregory Hines with (Director) Jackie Alexander; Sammy Davis Jr. with Alonzo Saunders & Beverly Ann Moore. As a literary student, Ted's efforts to help secure the legacy of contemporary artists by developing new works such as The Last Swingin' Black Jew (Joyfully, swinging through his personal and cultural, duality).
