"Scrooge in Rouge" is set in a Victorian music hall, where a production of "A Christmas Carol" is in jeopardy because 20 cast members have succumbed to food poisoning. The three healthy survivors insist that the show must go on. Male impersonator Vesta Virile (Yvette Hargis) plays Scrooge. Simpering soubrette Lottie Obligato (Varla Jean Merman) and journeyman character actor Charlie Schmaltz (Ricky Graham) play everyone else.

The pastiche songs by Graham and Jefferson Turner (with additional material by Ms. Merman and Hargis) and acting styles are send-ups of Victorian Music Hall and turn-of-the-century (the one before the last!) This is a family show, although it would probably best be enjoyed by adults and children old enough to appreciate the low-tech special effects and camp value.

The show actually cover most of Dickens' highlights, but filled with deliberate groaners, outrageous sexual double-entendres, great physical comedy and hilarious costumes, all in the tradition of British Panto.

Other productions have played successfully in California, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Atlanta, GA., but the original cast now returns to where it all started, in the beautiful Le Chat Noir cabaret in New Orleans. Quick-change costumes are by Cecile Casey Covert, musical direction by Mr. Turner, setting by John and Carolyn Barrois, company management by Brian Johnston, sound design by Thad Griffin, and lighting, etc. by Su Gonczy.

"Uproarious entertainment! A brilliantly constructed funhouse!" -David Cuthbert, WYES Television
