Nimbus Dance Spring Season: Sum of Parts at Nimbus Arts Center

Dates: 5/15/2026 - 5/16/2026

📍 Theatre:
Nimbus Arts Center

Nimbus Dance presents Sum of Parts, a spring season program at the Nimbus Arts Center in Jersey City on May 15–16, 2026, exploring themes of migration, identity, and belonging through four works. The program features a world premiere by Princess Grace Award-winning choreographer Houston Thomas titled A Land, A Promise, set to live choral music by Saunder Choi and performed by the West Village Chorale, drawing on Emma Lazarus' The New Colossus and poems written by detained Chinese immigrants at Angel Island. Also on the program are Pedro Ruiz's duet Heart & Flesh, which examines displacement through the lens of bird migration and the choreographer's experience as a Cuban immigrant, and Yoshito Sakuraba's Avenoir, which explores memory and identity through expansive, layered movement. The program closes with Through the Golden Door, a large-scale dance-theater work directed by Nimbus Artistic Director Samuel Pott, developed with New York Times bestselling author Helene Stapinski and drawn from oral histories with longtime Jersey City residents.
