Chill Bucket Productions makes its NYC debut with It’s an Italian Thing. No, It’s a Black Thing, a dramedy grappling with DEI & LGBTQ issues at the historic Guild Hall as well as live-streamed on Friday, October 1 & Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 8 pm.
It's an Italian Thing. No, It's a Black Thing, centers around Frankie, a middle-aged Italian-American trans woman who is faced with a touchy situation. She must meet Winnie, the African-American mother of Frankies younger girlfriend, Tanasia. Despite Tanasia's reassurances, Frankie is worried that Winnie will have serious issues with her gender, age and race. Frankie's brother, Jimmy, in his old-fashioned approach to relationships, first suggests Frankie bring a homemade chocolate cake and subsequently, a meat lasagna. But the encounter isnt all smooth sailing! “ I am thrilled to have a cast that dove into this dramedy and really leaned into the issues it tackles. These are so important right now. Actually, racial and LGBTQ issues were always important, but people are finally starting to see them, hear them and stand up for them. What is very appealing about Its an Italian Thing. No, its a Black Thing is its approachability. The comedy of it is a great tool and it shows how much more alike we are than different,” says Director, Dakota Martin. This brilliant cast of characters features the multi-talented playwright herself, Fran Sisco as Frankie. Detailed biographies and photographs of the cast can be found by visiting www.chillbp.com.
Performances will take place at Guild Hall in The Church of the Transfiguration, 1 E 29th Street, New York, NY. There will be a talkback/Q&A session following the play with the actors, director, producer, and playwright. Tickets can be purchased at www.chillbp.com for both the in-person ($40) and live-streaming ($20) options.
