The Gallery at Mercer County Community College To Feature Volunteers

By:

The first show of the 2010-11 season at The Gallery at Mercer County Community College will feature the talent of artists who are both gifted and generous with their time at the college. "Plastics Alchemy" showcases works by some of the artists who have volunteered at the Gallery during the past 12 years. The exhibit runs from Sept. 7 to 30 and is part of the college's year-long commemoration of The Gallery's 20th anniversary. A Closing Reception will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29, 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

According to Gallery Director Tricia Fagan, volunteers not only help to keep the doors open at the Gallery, they also add energy and camaraderie that make it a hub for local artists. While some of the featured artists are current volunteers, others have moved out of the area but remain in touch. "Our effort was to reach out to as many volunteers as we could and invite them to be part of this special show. We also want to remind patrons that the pleasant, knowledgeable people who greet them at the Gallery are often gifted artists." Fagan notes that artwork will be in a variety of media including paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures in concrete, clay and bronze. Some artists will exhibit multiple pieces.

Artists include: Jon F. Allen of Hamilton (MCCC graduate); Filomena (Phil) DiLeo of Hamilton; Beverly Ardos Fredericks of East Windsor; Keiko Ishida of Cambridge, MA (MCCC graduate); Renee Kumar of West Windsor; Matt Lucash of Hamilton (MCCC graduate); Susan Luty of Hightstown; Jess Martin of Robbinsville (MCCC graduate); Joe Mason of Hamilton; Arlene Milgram of Ewing; Zoe Milgram of Brooklyn, NY; Flannery Miller of Plainsboro (MCCC graduate); Janis Purcell of East Windsor; and Andrea Seabridge of Allentown.

Gallery hours for this exhibit are Wednesdays, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., and Thursdays, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. More information is available at www.mccc.edu/gallery or by email at gallery@mccc.edu.

The exhibit is made possible in part through the support of the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission, with funding from the Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
