TTC of Hoboken Presents THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, 7/13-29

By:

The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) will reprise its production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE in not one, but two unique outdoor venues this month. This delightful, comic operetta, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert, is directed by veteran TTC director/adaptor/actor Clara Barton Green. Great for all ages, performances will be July 13-15 & 20-22, 2012 at 7pm at Frank Sinatra Park in Hoboken and July 28 and 29, 2012 at 4pm at The Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, or The Slave of Duty, is the story of Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. Upon his release he meets and falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and shortly thereafter finds out that due to a trick clause in his apprenticeship, he has actually not been released from his indentures. Will Frederic betray his new-found love in favor of his duty? And what of the pirates who are plotting revenge against the Major-General for having cheated them out of plunder? “The cast has all been terrific, very hard-working and generous--which is essential to building a comedy,” enthused director Clara Barton Green. “They've all been coming up with great contributions, and I've incorporated as many of them as I can. Because this is not your typical ‘stand still and sing beautifully’ Gilbert and Sullivan, we have a wider range of comedy styles available, including slapstick and conceptual comedy, in addition to the famous wit of the original score and libretto. Hopefully there will be something to appeal to everyone in the audience, including kids, operetta neophytes, and Gilbert and Sullivan purists! “

The cast of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE welcomes soprano Jennifer Connor as she reprises her role as “Mabel.” Jennifer is joined by TTC regulars Nobuko Hori, Paul Kazalski, Thomas Livingston, Dylan Lupo, Kristy Magee, Jessica Nelson, Duncan Pflaster and Frank A. Riccobono; in addition to Mara Adler, Marleny Alonzo, Tawni Michelle Lanford, Melissa Lugo, Taylor Martin, and Mike Wolff as they make their TTC debut.
