Spring Lake Theatre to Present A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM This Fall

By:

Do you enjoy comedy? Romance? Drama? Magic? Stories of dukes, queens, and star-crossed lovers? Maybe even a little dancing? Then Spring Lake Theatre Company has the show for you!

This Fall, Spring Lake Theatre Company presents William Shakespeare's comedy masterpiece A Midsummer Night's Dream. The play tells the story of four Athenian youths who find themselves lost in a strange forest after fleeing from Athens. The four are spurred by different motivation to flee into the forrest. Hermia and Lysander, played by Claudia Noto and Ben Buckman, come to the forrest to escape the harsh Athenian law that forbids them to be together. Demetrius, played by John Gnazzo, comes to the forrest in the hopes of wooing Hermia. Helena, played by Rebecca Madeira, in turn comes in the hopes of winning the affections of Demetrius.

Meanwhile a troupe of bumbling actors meet in the forest to rehearse a play intended for the Duke's wedding day. The not-so-skilled actors are skillfully portrayed by Mike Caggiano, Rocco Licalsi, Lindsay Abbot, Al Morali, Steve Bartlow, and Kelvin Ortega. The Athenians and actors run into trouble when strange happenings start occurring around them due to the meddlings of the spirits, or fairies, that inhabit the forest.

The king and queen of the fairies, Oberon and Titania, are played by the talented Elisabeth O'Brien and Chris Lorenc. O'Brien and Lorenc pull double duty as Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and Hippolyta, his soon-to-be wife. The henchman to Oberon and everyone's favorite mischievous sprite, Puck, is portrayed by the captivating Mikayla Petrilla. Together, Oberon and Puck cause a fair bit of trouble for the Athenians, the actors, and even Titania when a magical flower that causes love at first sight gets misused a few too many times.

Rounding out the cast are Gina Teschke as a fairy named Peaseblossom, Chris Randazzo as the Duke's Philostrate, and Renard Wright as Hermia's stern father, Egeus. Spring Lake Theatre Company has once again assembled an exceptional cast to help bring A Midsummer Night's Dream to life. This show will have you laughing till you drop!

At the helm of the production are director Reid Henderson and producer Pat Barry, helping to bring an inventive and imaginative spin on an age old story. Brilliant set and lighting design, brought to us once again by the genius Andrew Dagostino, help to transport the characters and the audience into the magical world of the forrest. This is certainly not a show to miss!
