On Sunday, December 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at historic Mead Hall at Drew University, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents A Very Gorey Christmas, a frighteningly festive shopping and silent auction event inspired by the work of artist Edward Gorey. The Grand Foyer of Drew University's Mead Hall, a national historic site, will be decked in holiday finery for this shopping adventure featuring Anya Hindmarch handbags and accessories, Schultz Furriers' exquisite fine fur pieces, delicious treats from Enjou Chocolat and Gary's Wine and Marketplace, and many more unique and luxurious holiday gifts. Proceeds benefit the theatre's artistic and education programs. For more information call 973-236-2998.

Guests can feast on sumptuous hors d'oeuvres, wine, and specialty martinis while strolling past elegant holiday gift vendors in the magnificent Mead Hall, and enjoy whimsical presentations by Shakespeare Theatre artists of The Twelve Days of Christmas inspired by Edward Gorey and William Shakespeare. Guests can also join theatre actors at the piano for a holiday song sing along.

In addition, guests will have the opportunity to bid on a collection of scintillating silent auction items including:

· An exclusive Anya Hindmarch handbag.

· Custom carnival masks handmade by a resident Shakespeare Theatre artist.

· A five-day cruise to the destination of your choice on Celebrity Cruises

· A five-day, four-night stay at the fabulous Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, Quebec (airfare included).

· Edward Gorey stationery, books, and games

· One-of-a-kind Christmas trinkets, and much, much more!

In the spirit of Edward Gorey's famous illustrations, guests are encouraged to come dressed in black-and-white attire, with a red accent.

Originally built in 1833, Mead Hall is the centerpiece of Drew University's campus and a national historic site. Devastated by fire in 1989, Mead Hall reopened in 1993, completely restored to its original grandeur. It was added to the State and National Historic Registries in 1976, and is considered the finest example of Greek Revival architecture north of the Mason-Dixon line.

Tickets are $100 per person. For tickets or information, contact The Shakespeare Theatre's Development Department at 973-236-2998, or e-mail lbrackett@ShakespeareNJ.org. Advance reservations are required.
