Sandy Duncan to Star in One-Night-Only Reading of DRIVING MISS DAISY in New Jersey

Broadway and television star Sandy Duncan will play Miss Daisy in a one-night-only reading of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Driving Miss Daisy by Alfred Uhry, George Street Playhouse announced today. The reading, part of the GSP Celebrity Event Series, will take place on Monday, March 21, at 8 p.m. at the New Brunswick theatre.

Tickets are $25 with a limited number of $50 tickets available that include a post-play meet and greet with the artists.

Duncan has been nominated for three Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. She appeared on Broadway in Peter Pan, Chicago, My One and Only, and The Boyfriend among others. On television, she starred in the CBS sitcom Funny Face, The Sandy Duncan Show and for several seasons she appeared in Valerie's Family as Sandy Hogan. In the mid-1970s to the 1980s she was the television spokesperson for Wheat Thin crackers. Additional stage work includes The King and I, Mame, The Glass Menagerie, and Driving Miss Daisy.

Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy, winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is the story of Daisy Werthan, an elderly Southern Jewish woman and her African-American chauffer Hoke. The timeless and hopeful story begins in 1948 and spans nearly 25 years as their initial troubled pairing turns into a lasting and transformative friendship. The play was made into an Academy Award-winning film starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman.

This exclusive reading of Driving Miss Daisy also features Kevyn Morrow as Hoke and Bob Hess as Daisy's son, Boolie. Morrow is currently appearing on Broadway in the revival of The Color Purple. He also appeared in the Broadway musicals Dreamgirls, Smokey Joe's Café and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Hess has appeared in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Odd Couple and Art among many others.

Eric Woodall directs the reading - which reunites him with this cast, having directed them in a full production of Driving Miss Daisy at North Carolina Theatre. Additional directing credits include Billy Elliot, August Osage County and many others.
