Salsa Down The Yellow Brick Plays MCCC’s Kelsey Theatre

By:

Embracing the richness of Latin culture, Theatreworks USA presents the new musical "The Yellow Brick Road," a bilingual tale of 15-year-old Dora, at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre. Performances takes place today at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on Mercer's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Caught between two worlds - her Latin family traditions and contemporary American culture - Dora embarks on a journey of self-discovery on the eve of her quinceañera, her 15th birthday. A mysterious woman disrupts her party to forewarn Dora about a trip that will take her far from home. While traveling along the Amarillo Brick Road en route to the Emerald City, Dora meets three friends, each from a different Latin culture. She also meets a wicked witch flamenco dancer, and a glamorous Jennifer Lopez-esque Maga de Oz. In the end, she discovers the true meaning of "home." Songs by Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman capture a spectrum of Latin flavors from Cuban and Castilian to mariachi.

Theatreworks USA is America's largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for youth and family audiences. Since 1961, it has enlightened, entertained and instructed more than 78 million people in 49 states and Canada.

Tickets are $10 for all ages. Tickets may be purchased online at www.kelseytheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible. Free parking is available next to the theater.

For a complete listing of adult and children's events for the 2011-12 season, visit the Kelsey website or call the box office for a brochure.
