Roxey Ballet, voted New Jersey's favorite Dance Company, performs its first-ever 'Frankenstein' ballet from October 22-30. With choreography by Lees Hummel and Stephen K. Stone, they have conceived a contemporary adaptation of Mary Shelly's novel that mirrors the possibilities of the future.
Though "Frankenstein" stereotypically invokes a lumbering green man with bolts in his necks, Mary Shelley never delivers a concrete description of the monster's appearance. Instead, she conjures images of the creature's ugliness within the reader's own mind. This premier of 'Frankenstein' will fuse the classic narrative of Dr. Frankenstein's efforts to build and animate a human with the timeless intrigue of the unknown. It is the story of the ugly duckling to an extreme, questioning the human instinct of facing what is similar to us, yet vastly unfamiliar, and crafted into a performance that asks if fear defines our monster.Videos
