"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," Rahway High School's fall drama shares a unique examination of life through the eyes of an autistic fifteen year old boy, Christopher John Francis Boone. Based upon the book of the same title by author Mark Haddon, "The Curious Incident" explores the difficulty that the young Christopher has in dealing with the world and people around him.

In working through the story, characters and themes of "The Curious Incident," Director and theatre teacher Jensyn Modero has also shared the opportunity for high school students to become involved in Community Access Unlimited, a statewide non-profit provides support programs and services to adults with disabilities as well as youth served under the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to enable them to live independently in the community, providing supports in areas including housing, vocational skills and life-skills training, education, advocacy and recreation. For the past two summers, CAU has produced a full stage musical on the Rahway High School stage as a means of providing an arts outlet for its members.

"I want audiences to see the character of Christopher as an advocate for people with disabilities. It is easy to look at a person on the autism spectrum as lacking in abilities when in fact it is the opposite. In our production, Christopher is seen for his extraordinary ability, not his disability" says, Director Mrs. Modero.

To highlight this point, "The Curious Incident" will feature a unique theatrical experience. With the audience sitting on two sides of the stage, the traverse seating style configuration will illuminate the way in which the world welcomes and shuts out Christopher; a feeling many people with disabilities have expressed. The audience will literally be within feet of the student performers as Christopher's world comes to life around them.

In the 2017-2018 school year, the Rahway High School theatre program won top honors as they took home the 'Foxy Award' for 'Outstanding Classical Play' at the Montclair University Theater Night Awards, competing against high schools across the state.

Tickets for "The Curious Incident" are available online at www.rahwaymusicals.org or by calling 732-396-2966. Showtimes are on November 1 & 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm and November 3, 2018 at 3pm and 8pm. Seating is limited and it is not recommended for children under the age of 13 due to mature language.
