Premiere Stages Announces ANY OTHER NAME 9/4-9/20
Premiere Stages, celebrating its fifth year as the professional theatre in residence at Kean University, announces the production of Any Other Name, by George Brant. This new play was chosen to receive a full production out of over 300 submissions to the Premiere Play Festival.
In this compelling thriller set in 1840s London, a struggling poet visits his idol in search of inspiration. Instead, he unleashes a madness that feeds his insatiable hunger for fame. As art and ambition collide, how far will one man go to make a name for himself in a world where the truth cannot be trusted?
ANY OTHER NAME runs from Thursday, September 4 through Sunday, September 20 in Kean University's Zella Fry Theatre in the Vaughn Eames Building. Friday, September 18 and Sunday performances begin at 3 p.m.; all other performances begin at 8 p.m.

Premiere Stages prides itself on "a uniquely accelerated process" in which the region's most promising new plays are developed and fully produced within a year of submission.
"In many other professional theatres the time span between meeting a writer, staging a reading and producing the play can be years," notes artistic director John Wooten.
Just a year out of graduate school, George Brant's plays have been produced by Trinity Repertory Company, the Kennedy Center, Capitol Hill Arts Center, the Playwrights' Center, WordBRIDGE Playwright's Lab, ATHE, Trustus Theatre, the Drama League and the Disney Channel. His most recent play, Elephant's Graveyard, was awarded the David Mark Cohen National Playwrighting Award from the Kennedy Center, a citation of "Best New Play' from the Austin Critics' Table and the $50,000 Keene Prize for Literature.
He was also a finalist for the 2009 PONY Fellowship from the Lark Play Development Center. Brant completed his MFA in Writing from the Michener Center for Writers at UT-Austin in May 2008.
Any Other Name will feature an exceptional professional cast including Paul Molnar, Fletcher McTaggart, Carl Wallnau and Kean Theatre Major Audra Taliercio.

A post-show discussion with playwright George Brant and Director John Wooten following the Sunday, September 6 matinee performance.
A post-show "Sunday Scholars" discussion with Dr. Linda Best, a renowned researcher on the psychology of the creative writing process. Dr. Best will contextualize and extend the audience experience of the play in an engaging conversation about the play after the Sunday matinee on September 14.
Dinner packages are available with Union's Garden Restaurant, less than a mile from the theatre. Patrons enjoy reduced rates on both theatre tickets and a sumptuous meal.
