Players Guild Of Leonia presents SYLVIA in Partnership with Local Animal Shelters Image

New Jersey's oldest continuing theatrical group is partnering with two local animal shelters to help their animals find forever homes this holiday season.

The Players Guild of Leonia, a nonprofit resident acting company, will be be donating a portion of their proceeds from their production of "Sylvia" to Bergen County Protect and Rescue and Closter Animal Welfare Society (C.L.A.W.S.). In addition, the theatre will be accepting "wish list" items such as dog food, paper towels and other dog specific items the shelters need.

The play "Sylvia" written by A.R. Gurney, tells the funny and touching story of a stray dog taken in by a New York City Animal shelter and The Players Guild of Leonia knew this is a perfect opportunity to work together with local shelters for a worthy cause.

Maureen Mulvihill has been an active member and volunteer with all three nonprofit groups. "When I lost my dog Broadway, volunteering at the shelters helped channel my grief by helping animals find their forever home" says Mulvihill. "When I heard Players Guild would be performing 'Sylvia', I got to work on getting these three nonprofit groups together."

Leanna De Sheplo of C.L.A.W.S. is also excited about the joint venture. "We are honored to be teaming up with the Players Guild to promote awareness about animal rescue in our community". In addition to C.L.A.W.S, Bergen County Protect and Rescue will also be offering their support. "This partnership will bring committed solidarity in finding our shelter animals the forever homes they truly deserve. Together, we will make a significant difference. " adds Jenn Olivencia of Bergen County Protect and Rescue.

New York City Actress Meg Mark who stars as the canine Sylvia is also a dog lover in real life "My family dog Molly passed away not too long ago. Molly is missed very much." confesses Mark. The actress uses her former pet's actual leash in this production to honor Molly's memory.

The Players Guild's home is the Civil War Drill Hall Theater located at 130 Grand Avenue in Leonia. The theater, built in 1859, is minutes away from the George Washington Bridge and Manhattan.

"Sylvia" will be performed at the Civil War Drill Hall Theater, 130 Grand Avenue in Leonia. The show runs weekends from December 1st through 17th, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and Sunday matinees starting at 3pm. Ticket are $20, $18 for Seniors and Students.
