Jay Black & Lesley Gore Perform At State Theatre April 17

By:

Bringing the best of the 60s to the State Theatre Center For The Arts in Easton, Jay Black, former lead singer of Jay and The Americans, and teen sensation Lesley Gore will perform their greatest hits on Saturday, April 17th.

With Jay Black as lead singer, Jay and The Americans charted a string of hits including This Magic Moment, Walkin' In The Rain, Cara Mia, Only in America, Come a Little Bit Closer and Sunday and Me, the first hit written by Neil Diamond. It was singer-songwriter Black's magnificent voice that gave the group the distinctive sound that allowed it to turn out 21 chart singles.

During their peak of success, Jay and the Americans made numerous appearances on the hottest television programs of the day, from Johnny Carson to Mike Douglas to Merv Griffin and more. The band was even featured in the movie Wild, Wild Winter in which they sang Two of a Kind. When The Beatles made their first appearance in the United States, it was Jay and the Americans who opened for them. Black and his band also opened for the Rolling Stones, among other superstars.
Lesley Gore was a junior in high school when Its My Party became a #1 hit. Gore's first hit was followed by many others, including the follow up to Its My Party, Judy's Turn to Cry. Gore had become the standard bearer for teenage angst and She's A Fool and You Don't Own Me united teenage girls around the world with someone who seemed to be going through the same things they were. Lesley Gore placed 15 more entries in the top 100, including four in the top twenty, from 1964 to 1967, among them such hits as Maybe I Know, Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows and California Nights.

Jay Black and Lesley Gore bring the best of the 60's to the State Theatre Center For The Arts, 453 Northampton Street in Easton on April 17th. Showtime is 8 pm. Tickets start at just $40. To purchase tickets, call (610) 252-3132 or online at www.statetheatre.org.
