JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Kicks Off Second Season At Music Mountain Theatre Image

The original "rock-opera" comes to life on the Music Mountain Theatre stage; this time, as you have never seen it - with an all-female cast. In this powerful rendition of the passion play, the messiah is not a divine figure but a cultural phenomenon. Against the backgroup of conservative governance and rigid religiosity, Jesus Christ leads his followers toward destiny as his right-hand man, Judas Iscariot struggles to avoid the inevitable. The ironic allusions to modern life, which are scattered through this depiction of political events, are magnified as viewed through a world ruled by women. The groundbreaking score features Heaven on their Minds, I Don't Know How To Love Him, Gethsemane, and Superstar.

Leading the cast is Jill Palena. An MMT favorite, Jill has been seen as Diana in A Chorus Line, Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical, and Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray. Jesus Christ Superstar also stars Jenna Parrilla (last seen in Godspell and as the Sour Kangaroo in Seussical the Musical), Lauren Brader (Sheila in A Chorus Line, Marty in Grease, Christine Penmark in The Bad Seed) and Jennifer Fischer (Ursula in The Little Mermaid).

Director Richard Amelius previously directed a concert version of an all-female cast of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2017 led by Broadway's Shoshana Bean (Wicked) and Morgan James (Godspell) at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. Amelius is thrilled to bring the same exciting and innovative concept to life in Lambertville with the best talent in the area.

In the spirit of empowering women, MMT is partnering with SAFE in Hunterdon County. SAFE's mission is to cultivate safety, empowerment and healing in an alliance with the adults, teens and children affected by domestic and sexual violence while mobilizing the community to promote social change that will reduce power-based violence, control and oppression. Audience members are asked to bring backpacks and school supplies for the children of the clients served at the agency's safe house.

Don't miss this exciting production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Music Mountain Theatre. Tickets are $25 for adults and $23 for students and seniors and are available online at www.musicmountaintheatre.org or by calling the box office at 609-397-3337.
