Hollywood Comes To Lakewood With William Goldstein

World-renowned composer and pianist William Goldstein, who is an Emmy and Tony nominated artist, will be performing at the Historic Strand Theater, 400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018, to benefit the Lakewood Historical Society.

A 1959 Lakewood High School graduate and an inductee into the Lakewood High School Alumni Hall of Fame, Goldstein, a recording artist for Motown and CBS Masterworks, has scored more than 50 movie and television projects, including Fame, The Miracle Worker, Twilight Zone, and Shocker.

Goldstein, who has been a pioneer in the use of computers and electronic music instruments, is known for his gift of "Instant Composition," which he shares with audiences through Master Classes, recitals, and albums. As part of his performance at the Strand, students from Lakewood High School will read their original poetry and Goldstein will compose music on the spot to accompany them.

In addition to his professional activities in music and film, Mr. Goldstein is a founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, a director of the California State Summer School for the Arts, and a member of both the music branch executive committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as well as its foreign language committee. He has also been a "visiting artist" for the Academy, lecturing from the Far East to the Middle East on contemporary aesthetics as well as music in film. He has written on the arts for The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.
