East Lynne Theater Hosts A Free Performance of HISTORICAL SPOUT OFFS, Sept. 3
By: Jessikah Hackett
On Friday, Sept. 3 at 10:30p.m., the award-winning East Lynne Theater Company presents a free performance of a reading of "Historical Spout Offs" compiled and edited by Tom Byrn, who is currently in ELTC's production of "The Dictator."
"Historical Spout Offs" is a collection of letters to the editor published in Cape May's early newspapers. From crowded sidewalks to stealing chickens, from the Civil War to leap-year love, citizens throughout history seem always to have an opinion. While Tom was in Cape May last year in "The Ransom of Red Chief," he spent time at the local library pouring over editorials in local papers, focusing on 1860-1925. He, along with Aiden Kohler and Karen Case Cook, presented "Historical Spout Offs" as a staged-reading, and it was so well-received that Tom has continued working on the piece. Now he's ready for another reading. This time, there will be 12 performers, mostly members of "The Dictator" cast.
