David Wills and Marianne Green Star in Eagle Theatre's LOMBARDI, Now thru 10/12

By:

The Eagle Theatre, located at 208 Vine St. in Hammonton, N.J., lined the six member cast of "Lombardi" with several veteran actors. David Wills, who plays famed Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi, and Marianne Green, who plays his wife, have performed regionally and internationally for decades. This will mark their third time performing as each other's opposites since first sharing the stage in 1979 when they were cast in the musical "Shenandoah."

Franklin Anthony, a Boston Conservatory for Musical Theatre graduate, has garnered accolades as a regional choreographer. Anthony, James Eckstein and Peter Zielinski play Green Bay Packers legends Dave Robinson, Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung respectively. Tim Rinehart, who starred in the Eagle Theatre's recent production of "Urinetown: The Musical," rounds out the cast as Michael McCormick, a journalist from LOOK Magazine sent to "find out what makes Lombardi win."

The play, which premieres September 20 and runs until October 12, follows Vince Lombardi during a week in the 1965 season as he attempts to take his team to the championship. It also delves into Lombardi's life off the gridiron, giving perspective on the man behind the legend. Notably, the Eagle Theatre will be one of the first professional theatres in America to produce the show since it closed on Broadway in 2011.

The six actors commute to rehearsals from throughout the region, including Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel and Woodbury in New Jersey, and Brookhaven, Sellersville and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

"Lombardi" premieres at the Eagle Theatre tonight, September 20 at 8 p.m., and will run until October 12 with performances on September 21, 26, 27, 28, October 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 8 p.m., and September 29 and October 6 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for General Admission and $30 for Front Rows. Tickets can be purchased at www.TheEagleTheatre.com. For more information, contact the box office at (609) 704-5012.
