Children's Classic 'LITTLE ENGINE' Comes to MCCC's Kelsey Theatre Today

By:

Belief in oneself and the notion that anything is possible are the themes of ArtsPower's new musical, "The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle," based on the beloved children's classic. This show comes to Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre today, Jan. 26, with performances at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

At the Piney Vale Train Station, the overbearing Silver Engine keeps things running efficiently and always on time. Silver has no patience for Little Blue, who - to everyone but dependable old Rusty - seems far too small to pull the Piney Vale Express. But when Blue's friend, Little Red, hurts her wheel, it's time for Little Blue to step up and prove to Silver Engine that she can do the job just as well as all the other engines.

Based on the book by Watty Piper, this show features a dynamic Broadway-style score and colorful, inventive sets and costumes as it teaches children that, like the Little Blue Engine, they too can find a way to conquer their fears and demonstrate the extraordinary strength that comes with the "I think I can!" attitude.

Founded in 1985 by identical twins Mark and Gary Blackman, ArtsPower is based in Verona, N.J., and is the second largest company in the nation to provide professional Equity theater for young and family audiences.

Tickets are $10 for all ages and may be purchased online at www.kelseytheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible and free parking is available next to the theater.
