Brian Wilson to Perform Gershwin Songs At the Wellmont Theatre, 6/9
According to the Record, BrIan Wilson, best known as the lead singer and chief songwriter of The Beach Boys, will be headed to Momtclair's Wellont Theatre this evening to perform songs from his latest album, "BrIan Wilson Reimagines Gershwin" along with classic songs from The Beach Boys.
Wilson, who first heard Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" as a toddler, sites Gershwin as one of his musical heroes. "His violin harmonies I liked a lot," Wilson tells the Record. "When I was 28 years old, I learned how to play the main, pretty section."
Wilson was approached by the Gershwin estate a few years ago, and was asked to complete two piano pieces out of 104 that were unfinished when Gershwin died at age 38 in 1937. "We listened and found two that we liked the harmonies the best," Wilson says of "The Like in I Love You" and "Nothing But Love".
Among the arrangements that Wilson plans to include in his act are "Summertime", and "It Ain't Necessarily So", from Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS, as well as some of the most popular collaborations with his brother, Ira such as, "I Got Rhythm". He also plans to include many of the upbeat melodies of his Beach Boy days such as the audience favorite, "Good Vibrations".
BrIan Wilson will be performing at The Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, NJ tonight at 8:00 pm.
