Bergen County Players Announce Open Auditions for SPAMALOT

Bergen County Players of Oradell, winner of NJACT's 2015 Community Theatre of the Year award, will hold open auditions for Monty Python's SPAMALOT, the outrageous Tony Award-winning Broadway musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the motion picture "Monty Python & the Holy Grail." Book and lyrics by Monty Python alum, Eric Idle, a musical score by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, and direction by Jacqueline McElroy-Poquette.

When:
Monday, May 8th at 730pm
Thursday, May 11th at 730pm.
Callbacks, by invitation only, will be May 15 and 17, both at 7:30pm.

Where:
Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ

Production Dates:
Sept 9 - Oct 7, 2017
Rehearsals begin in June.

Summary:
Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and their quest for the Holy Grail, the uproariously witty spoof features a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, killer rabbits and one legless knight. All the hilarities of Monty Python and the Holy Grail are even funnier set to the rollicking music of the Round Table Knights and the mysterious, definitively diva Lady of the Lake. The original Broadway show won three Tonys including Best Musical, as well as the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best Musical.

All cast members will be asked to speak with British accents.

KING ARTHUR (Late 30's-60's): The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Roundtable and find the Holy Grail.
Great Humor. Good singer.

SIR ROBIN (20's-40's): Ironically called Sir Robin the Brave, though he couldn't be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for the singing and dancing.
Also plays:
GUARD 1 & BROTHER MAYNARD, a long-winded monk

SIR LANCELOT (20's-40's): A Knight of the Roundtable. He is fearless to a bloody fault, but through a twist of fate, does discover his "softer side."
This actor MUST be great with character voices and accents.
Also plays:
THE FRENCH TAUNTER, an arrogant, condescending, over-the-top Frenchman
KNIGHT OF NI, an absurd cartoonish leader of a peculiar group of Knights
TIM THE ENCHANTER, a ghostly being with a Scottish accent

PATSY (20's-40's): King Arthur's horse and servant. Underappreciated but always longing for King Arthur's approval.
Good, funny, physical mover with some tap dancing.

MAYOR, a jolly red-faced man who advertises the merits of his home town
GUARD 2, drunk and useless

SIR GALAHAD (20's-40's): A Knight of the Roundtable. Begins as DENNIS, a lower class "mud gatherer" who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad.
Also plays:
PRINCE HERBERT'S FATHER, a wealthy, brutish Yorkshireman at odds with his sensitive son
THE BLACK KNIGHT, always ready to duel despite multiple injuries. Strong baritenor singing is required

SIR BEDEVERE (20's-40's): A Knight of the Roundtable. An ineptscholar. No solo singing.
Also plays:
DENNIS GALAHAD?s MOTHER, a shrill peasant woman
CONCORDE, Sir Lancelot?s horse

THE LADY OF THE LAKE (20's-30's): A Diva. Strong, beautiful, possesses mystical powers. The leading lady of the show. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers.

HISTORIAN (20's-40's): A tweedy academic. Tenor Singing Required. Very Good Mover.
Also plays:
FRED, a sickly little fellow who, despite others' beliefs, claims he is "not dead yet."
FRENCH GUARD, the condemnatory French sidekick to the French Taunter
MINSTREL, in Sir Robin's band
PRINCE HERBERT, the hopeful and frilly prince who loves to sing, and pines for his love atop a tower

SIR NOT APPEARING may double as THE DANCING MONK
A MALE DANCER appears as THE DANCING NUN
THE VOICE OF GOD may be pre-recorded
