Review: Hammonton's Kathedral Event Center Opens with U2 Tribute Band
Kathedral Event Center, formerly the Saint Martin DePorres Church is the premier venue for concerts and events in Southern New Jersey. Built in 1964, Kathedral has been newly renovated to provide a versatile space, which focuses on the audience experience. Owner and Hammonton native Kevin Rodio put in an offer for the former church towards the end of last summer and things moved quickly. Now less than a year later, the Kathedral Event Center opens its doors.
What better way to bring in the fun than to invite one of the Northeast's most famous U2 Tribute bands Unforgettable Fire. After twenty years of playing in some of the most prestigious venues on the East Coast, UF has formed a reputation among many to be one of the closest experiences to being at an actual live U2 show. The members of UF are George (Larry) Levesanos, Tony (Bono) Russo, Craig (Adam) Kiell and Mick (Edge) Normoyle.
The space that once was filled with pews, priests, sacramental wine and staiNed Glassed windows was transformed to tables, chairs, "Party Girls" and guys, adult beverages and a more than healthy dose of strobe lights and State- of- the- Arts lighting. The Kathedral Event Center will be a place for high-end entertainment and for people to rent out for personal events, such as weddings. The Kathedral will have two areas for rent, the main hall/concert hall in the former sanctuary and the banquet hall downstairs. "There really is nothing like it. It gives us the flexibility to be whatever we need it to be," said Kathedral managing director Andrew Rivenbark.
