Monroe resident Alison Levier will be playing a lead role in Phoenix Productions' upcoming November revival of Seussical. This show will take place at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank for a two-weekend run beginning November 10th.

In Seussical, Alison plays Gertrude McFuzz, the bird with a one-feathered tail in pursuit of the heart of Horton the Elephant. "Gertrude is a sweet but insecure girl-bird who just wants to be noticed by her crush, Horton," explains Alison on her character. "She is very ashamed of her plain, one-feather tail, which sets off this journey she goes on, where she realizes that her outward appearance isn't what makes her "amazing", it is her loyalty, spunk and perseverance that make her truly unique and special."

Alison is a well-known actress and member of the Monroe community. She has been long involved in the New Jersey Theatre community, with notable roles as Wendla in Spring Awakening, Inga in Young Frankenstein, Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Linda in The Wedding Singer. Seussical marks Alison's second show with Phoenix Productions after playing Cinderella in Phoenix's September revival of Into the Woods.

Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters in Seussical, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination - Jojo. Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza about an elephant trying to save a small world. roadway Seussical's colorful characters transport us from the planet of Who, and the smallest of smalls, to the Jungle of Nool and the largest of all!

Horton faces a double challenge: not only must the protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in a show perfect for the whole family. "Our production of Seussical really takes the core of the story, imagination, and elevates it to a whole new level," states Alison on Phoenix's revival of the show. "We have set it on a playground, which will automatically take audience members, young and old, to a place of childlike wonder. I am very proud of what we are creating."

Seussical will run from November 10th through November 19th, with performances on Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 7pm, and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Count Basie Theatre Box Office at 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank NJ, by phone at 732-842-9000, or online at www.countbasietheatre.org.
