Will Cather Documentary Presented With Free Admission At River Street Theatre In Jaffrey

Jaffrey's River Street Theatre (a project of The Park Theatre) will be presenting the award-winning documentary about American author Willa Cather (1873-1947) entitled Willa Cather: The Road is All. It will be shown Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 7pm as well as Friday, October 19 at 3pm and 7:30pm. Admission to all screenings is free.

The film is shown courtesy of The Park Theatre as part of the Willa Cather Celebration Weekend in Jaffrey that honors the 100th anniversary of the publication of Cather's My Antonia. In 1883, the young Cather was plucked from her luxurious home in Virginia and dropped into the tall grass prairies of Nebraska, an experience that exhilarated her and became the force behind all of her great novels - O Pioneer, My Antonia, Death Comes for the Archbishop and the Pulitzer Prize-winning One of Ours. She has been a great inspiration to women writers and women readers, rediscovered in every decade for the past 100 years. She called Jaffrey her home for many summers and found it the "best place" to do her writing. The town meant so much to Ms. Cather that she is buried in the Old Burying Ground behind the Jaffrey Meetinghouse.

Willa Cather: The Road is All is 90 minutes in length and was produced by PBS in 2005 and was the winner of the Bronze Award at the Western Heritage Awards in 2006. The film is narrated by Academy Award nominated (Good Night, and Good Luck) actor David Strathairn. It also features Academy Award winning actress (Pollock) Marcia Gay Harden as the voice of Willa Cather.

Tickets for Willa Cather: The Road is All are free. However, reservations are highly recommended. More program and schedule information, as well as free ticket reservations, can be found by visiting RiverSt.org or by calling the RST Box Office (603) 532-8888.
