The River Street Theatre (RST), a project of The Park Theatre, announced today that they have obtained the rights to present HD screenings of the Royal Shakespeare Company's upcoming productions.

The presentations will debut next month with Shakespeare's magical play, The Tempest. It will be shown on March 12 and 13. Additionally, at least three more productions will be presented at the RST: Julius Caesar (May), Antony & Cleopatra (July) and Titus Andronicus (September).

The Royal Shakespeare Company is based in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. It was established in 1961 and is considered one of the preeminent Shakespeare theatre companies in the world. Their new production of The Tempest will feature Simon Russell Beale as Prospero, the Duke of Milan and self-taught sorcerer. Beale has won numerous acting awards.

"We are thrilled to be able to present the Royal Shakespeare Company's HD screenings to the Monadnock Region. The productions are breathtaking and phenomenal. They bring new audiences to the wonderful works of Shakespeare," said Steve Jackson CEO and Managing Director of The Park Theatre. "We plan to continue our relationship with the RSC and transfer the presentations from the River Street Theatre to the new Park Theatre when it opens," added Jackson.

It was also announced that the River Street Theatre will begin showing new films every week starting with Maggie Smith in the comedy The Lady in the Van on Thursday, February 9th. Each week there will be an independent film, a children's film, a documentary or foreign film as well a classic film. The new River Street Theatre (or RST) is a project of The Park Theatre. In anticipation of the construction and opening of the new Park Theatre performing arts center, the RST will be a small, intimate theatre venue to "bridge" the construction project until the new theatre complex opens. The RST boasts only 28 seats, but it has new, extremely comfortable & upholstered wide seating, HD digital projection plus the best concessions around. Every week The RST will present new independent films, inspiring and educational documentaries, fresh foreign films, and classic films from Hitchcock to the Coen Brothers. Additionally, the RST will have live music nights, stand-up comedy, magicians, programming for children as well as readings from new and classic plays. All offered at affordable prices. It makes the claim, "New England's Smallest Theatre... and proud of it." The RST promises programming that is always entertaining, innovative and fresh. Located at the heart of New Hampshire's Mount Monadnock, the RST is a 90 minute drive from downtown Boston.

The Park Theatre first opened in Jaffrey in 1922 and was the center of community life as a movie and vaudeville house for 54 years until it closed in 1976. Purchased by The Park Theatre, Inc. in 2006, it will be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art film and performing arts center, featuring two auditoriums seating 485, presenting movies, live theatre, including children's productions, concerts, and lectures as well as offering a place for business and community gatherings for the Monadnock Region and its 100,000 residents, school districts and dynamic artistic community. The new theatre is scheduled to be opened in 2018.
