RB Launches Youth Theater Series with SWEENEY TODD Tonight, 7/7
RB Productions' 2012 Summer Youth Theatre series will comprise Sweeney Todd School Edition, Godspell Jr., Seussical Jr, and Once on the Island, Jr., featuring young performers ages 8 to 19.
Sweeney Todd School Edition, recommended for ages 13+, opens the series with a performance tonight, Saturday, July 7, at 2 & 7pm. This chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife.
Godspell, Jr., the groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love, is sure to win audiences of all ages over with much loved songs like the international hit "Day by Day" when it takes the CCA stage the following week on Friday, July 13, at 7pm and Saturday, July 14, at 2 & 7pm.
The always popular Seussical Jr. will open on Friday, July 20, at 7pm and Saturday, July 21, at 2pm with appearances by all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination-Jojo.
Closing out the series is a family friendly production of Once on This Island Jr. on Friday July 27 at 7pm and Saturday July 28, at 2pm. This Tony-nominated play that tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred, and death.
All RB Productions performances go onsale at the Capitol Center for the Arts May 23 Open House starting at 6pm and can be purchased at The Capitol Center for the Arts Box Office, located at 44 South Main Street, Concord NH 03301, online at www.ccanh.com, or via phone at 603-225-1111 beginning on May 24 at 11am. Tickets are $10 each or $8.25 when purchasing the four show series. With the exception of Sweeney Todd, recommended for ages 13+, all RB Production are recommended for all ages.
