Pontine Presents Peter Dimuro's PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF MOTION, 21-24 March

March 21-24, Pontine Theatre continues its premiere season at the Plains School, with performances by Peter Dimuro's Public Displays of Motion. The newly renovated Plains School, located at One Plains Avenue in Portsamouth's West End, is a collaboration between Pontine Theatre and the City of Portsmouth. It is fully accessible with convenient free parking adjacent. Performances are Thursday at 3pm, Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are $27 and may be purchased online at www.pontine.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door a half-hour prior to each show based on availability. This production is underwritten by Gillian M. Aguilar. Pontine's season is supported by a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Boston-based Peter DiMuro's Public Displays of Motion is a company of dancer/collaborators adept in multiple movement and performance techniques. Company members span an age-range of five decades. Guest collaborators include professional dancers with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities, creating a rare communicative power. Performances range from grand spectacles, on-site, miniature, intimate dances on table tops, and traditional performances on stage.


PDM has performed residencies at the Boston Center for the Arts, The Yard, Vermont Performance Lab, Boston Dance Alliance, Villa Victoria Cultural Center/South End, Boston Center for the Arts and The Dance Complex, where Peter Dimuro is the Executive Artistic Director.

Peter was a Boston Mayor's Office Artist in Residence inaugural cohort participant, a recipient of a 2017 Creative City grant; and has received a lifetime achievement award from Salem State University in 2017. Peter was named by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum its inaugural Choreographer in Residence for 2018. Peter also serves as a consultant in arts and corporate settings, most recently with the all-male drag ballet company, Le Ballet Trockadero de Monte Carlo.

Peter was Artistic Director of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange 2003-2008, capping a 15-year relationship as performer. lead-artist/director and collaborator with the inter/national touring company founded by MacArthur "Genius" Liz Lerman. He directed seminal projects for Dance Exchange, including "The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Project" and the 17-city tour of "Hallelujah Project", both engaging communities in dialogue and action to make dance/theatre.

Peter's work has appeared on tour and been commissioned by leading presenters, including The Kennedy Center/DC, Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center/MD, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Dance Place/DC, DanceNOW at Joe's Public Theatre/NY, Dance Umbrella, the Emerson Majestic, Bates Dance Festival, American Dance Festival, and AURAS Dance/Lithuania.
