Oscar Best Picture Nominee, LADY BIRD Opens At RST, 2/1
The critically acclaimed independent film, Lady Bird opens this Thursday, February 1st at The Park Theatre's River Street Theatre in Jaffrey. The film has received 5 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.
Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig, reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird's father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.
Lady Bird's other Oscar nominations include Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan), Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf) and Best Original Screenplay (Greta Gerwig). The film has won over 75 film awards and received 146 nominations. It stands in the rare position of scoring a near perfect 99% Fresh on the website Rotten Tomatoes (220 positives out of 221 film critic reviews).
