For 21 years, New Hampshire Theatre Project in Portsmouth has offered summer camp programs that combine learning and fun in the performing arts. Some exciting new summer theatre programs are coming up at NHTP, and all the old favorites are still being offered as well.

Brand new this year, NHTP is collaborating with Portsmouth Music & Arts Center in a Build Your Own Musical Camp for ages 8-12. Running August 8-12 at PMAC, this sensational new camp will be taught by vocalist Erin Smith (PMAC) and theatre artist Catherine Stewart (NHTP).

Also new this year, NHTP's beloved Kids Theatre Camp and Story Theatre Camp will both be offered twice. Kids Theatre Camp focuses on Creative Drama for ages 6-9. The first session of Story Theatre Camp will feature Stories from Science and emphasize STEM connections with the performing arts. The second session will focus on Myths & Legends. Both Story Theatre Camps are for ages 8-12.

Registrations are nearly full for NHTP's popular Teen Theatre Camp. Newcomer Crystal Gould joins the staff this summer. Recently moved to the seacoast, Crystal graduated with honors from the theatre school at Idyllwild Arts Academy, completed a program with the British American Drama Academy, and holds a BA in English/Theatre Education from California State University.

Dedicated to the process of creating transformational theatre, NHTP summer programs emphasize craft and skill-building over entertainment. "I wonder if you know what this opportunity has done for my son's self-esteem and social interactions with peers at school," writes one parent. "We are so lucky to have found your program!" Another parent posts on Facebook that NHTP is responsible for "my kids' stellar ACT and SAT scores, merit scholarships and ability to speak in front of large crowds." NHTP alumni speak eloquently about learning critical thinking, confidence, responsibility and leadership skills.
