Virtuoso fireworks lit off Niccolò Paganini. Thus he kept around 1830 the European musical life in his grasp. Wherever he appeared, he was greeted like a superstar. The violinist was gaunt and had glowing eyes. His appearance was a reason for the wildest rumors. Paganini no one less than the devil himself were. He was illuminated by candle flames during his performances, that impression must have undoubtedly strengthened.

In the New Church two sound of Paganini's Caprices devilish tricky again by candlelight. They are carried out by the young violinist Michael Foyle, who appeared recently as a comet in the Oskar Back Competition and first prize took home.

Liszt was nineteen years old when he became overwhelmed by Paganini's violin playing. He made arrangements of Paganini's Caprices which he left to spend later Grands Etudes de Paganini. You listen to these spectacular etudes in alternation with Paganini's originals. Master Pianist Kit Armstrong gets behind the wing. Sony took an acclaimed Liszt CD.

Liszt's catchy symphonic poem about Prometheus who stole fire from the gods of Olympus will not be missed. Kit Armstrong and Hans Eijsackers interpret Liszt's own arrangement for piano four hands.
