Jan Willem de Vriend conductor selected for the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare parts from ' The Fairy Queen '. This opera by Purcell, loosely based on Shakespeare's comedy "A Midsummer night's Dream ', is one of the most beautiful scores of the English Baroque. Purcell combines the delicacy and beauty of the Italians with the decorations and gaiety of the French composers. Mendelssohn was also a great admirer of Shakespeare. Less than eighteen years old he wrote a sparkling Orchestra Overture "Ein Sommernachtstraum ' which he baptized. Five years before his death he was commissioned to write incidental music to Shakespeare's fabulous comedy about the fairy realm of Oberon and Titania. The enchanting atmosphere is very beautifully put down by Mendelssohn, highlighted by the world famous Wedding March.
