'The Homecoming' Auditions Slated for Hendersonville's Steeple Players
Auditions for the second production of Steeple Players' 16th season, The Homecoming: A Christmas Story, based on the novel by Earl Hamner Jr. and adapted by Christopher Sergel, will be held Monday, September 21, and Tuesday, September 22, at Steeple Players Theatre, 260 West Main Street in Hendersonville.
Auditions will begin at 6:30 p.m. (CDT). Adults and teens interested in auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue, as well as be prepared for cold reading from the script. Younger children can prepare a monologue if they would like, but it is not required. They also should be prepared for cold reading from the script.
The cast consists of seven men and five women between the ages of 20 and 90, and six boys and four girls, ages six to late teens. The cast may be expanded for optional extras.
The Homecoming is based on Hamner's book (and was the inspiration for the 1970s TV series, The Waltons). The Homecoming tells the story of the large Spencer family, living at the foot of a Virginia mountain and struggling to survived the Depression. It is Christmas Eve 1933 and Clay Spencer has found a much-needed job 50 miles away from his wife, Olivia and their eight children. His son, Clay-Boy, has a secret yearing to become a writer. When his father's return is delayed by a snowstorm, Clay-Boy searches for his father with the help of friends and neighbors, ultimately learning more about himself and his family.
The show runs November 13-20.
