Steeple Players to Host Auditions for FOOTLOOSE, THE MUSICAL

Hendersonville's Steeple Players will host auditions for their upcoming production of Footloose the Musical on Saturday, October 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Noverm ber 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Steeple Players Theatre, 260 West Main Street, in Hendersonville.

Roles are available for actors, dancers and singers of all ages (children, teens, and adults). Auditionees should prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo song. Pre-recorded accompaniment is preferred, but an accompanist will also be provided, and auditionees should be dressed in clothing appropriate for movement and be prepared to learn a short dance combination. Resumes and headshots will be accepted, but they are not required.

The cast consists of 15 men and eight women ages 13 and up, plus an ensemble of townspeople and high school students.

Footloose the Musical is the story of a teenager from Chicago (Ren), forced to move with his mother to a puritanicAl Small town. He is outraged to discover that the local preacher (Rev. Shaw Moore) has forbidden dancing. Ren and Ariel, the Rev. Moore's daughter, join forces with the town's other teenagers to protest the town's anti-dancing law. Nominated for four Tony Awards in 1999, Footloose is based on the 1984 movie that starred Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The show runs January 29 through February 14, 2010.
