Spring Awakening, the eight-time Tony Award winning Broadway musical - featuring "the most gorgeous Broadway score this decade," according to Entertainment Weekly - comes to Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center for the last time on February 27.

Based on Frank Wedekind's equally controversial 1891 play, the landmark musical is described as "a stirring combination of sexuality, morality and rock and roll that is captivating audiences across the nation like no other musical in years." Spring Awakening features an award-winning and evocative story with a score by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater.

The Broadway production opened December 10, 2006 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, and the original cast recording of Spring Awakening won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late 19th century Germany, Spring Awakening follows a group of young students as they navigate through teenage self-discovery and coming of age anxiety. A celebration of youth and rebellion, the New York Times raved, "Broadway may never be the same" in its review of the show.

The original Broadway direction and choreography by Michael Mayer and Bill T. Jones, respectively., is recreated for the national tour by Lucy Skilbeck and JoAnn M. Hunter. Set design is by Christine Jones, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kevin Adams and sound design by Brian Ronan.

Tickets range from $32.50 to $68.50, and are available at the TPAC box office, 505 Deaderick Street (downtown). Order online by visiting www.tpac.org or by calling (615) 782-4040.

Spring Awakening contains mature themes, sexual situations and strong language. For additional dates and more information, visit: www.springawakeningontour.com
