SPEAKEASY: A MUSICAL REVIEW Set for Roxy Regional Theatre, Now thru 9/12

Take a trip back to the period in our nation's history when gangsters were the purveyors of libations, women sported fluttering fringe above the knee, and the likes of Sophie Tucker held court at various nightclubs. Leading in to the Roxy Regional Theatre's 33rd Season, SPEAKEASY will showcase the music of the Roaring Twenties, cabaret style, tonight, August 28 - September 12.

After congregating at the entrance to the "speakeasy" (the front door of the Roxy), audiences will gain access to the lobby and performance space with the magic words "Joe Sent Me." Kelley Barker, Ryan Bowie, Michael Jemison and Rori Nogee will sing, joke and dance the Charleston through a trunkload of popular tunes filled with catchy lyrics and double entendres, including "This Joint is Jumpin'," "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate," "Mean to Me," "It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" and many more, to piano accompaniment by Tom Thayer. Banter and wisecracks straight from the repertoire of "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas" herself, vaudeville entertainer Sophie Tucker, will have audiences in stitches all night.

This musical revue is being presented as part of the Roxy's "On The Terrazzo" Series, which features performances in the intimate setting of the theatre's lobby. A limited number of tables and chairs are available, and seating is general admission, so reservations are strongly recommended. Due to some adult content, this production is recommended for mature audiences.

SPEAKEASY runs August 28 through September 12, playing Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00pm and Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm. (There is no performance on Wednesday, September 2.)

Tickets are $20 (including a beverage and light refreshments) and may be reserved online at www.roxyregionaltheatre.org, by phone at 931-645-7699, or at the theatre during regular box office hours (9:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday, and one hour prior to curtain).
